Badri KC's panel has been decided for the 10th World Conference to select the future leadership of the Non-Resident Nepali Association. KC has formed a panel with some office bearers of the current working committee.
KC, who is hoping to get votes close to the UML, has also managed to include Congress and UCPN (Maoist) supporters in his team. Incumbent General Secretary Dr. Hemraj Sharma is on the Dr. KC panel. Sharma, a resident of the United Kingdom, will be running for the post of vice-president from the KC team at the upcoming world conference. It is estimated that the votes of Kul Acharya, another candidate for the post, may decrease if Sharma, who was born in Baglung, gives his candidature from the UK. On the other hand, when KC was promoted as Emalenikat, Sharma was said to be close to the Congress. In the current working committee, Sharma is the charioteer of Chairman Kumar Pant and Vice-Chairman KC. In the 9th World Conference held in 2076 BS, Sharma defeated Janaki Gurung as the General Secretary with 1139 votes.
Sharma claims that the current working committee has done a remarkable job among Corona Kaharka. He said that the special general convention, departmental structure commencement, second expert conference, financial details being made public every three months were the achievements of the current working committee. Sharma had coordinated the expert conference which was attended by more than 500 experts from 30 different countries. Sharma stands as a strong pillar of KC's panel.
The other side alleges that the names of the delegates to the World Conference have been manipulated in Sharma's proposal. The party dissatisfied with the current working committee had lodged a complaint abroad stating that there was a dispute over the selection of representatives. Due to the complaint of that party, the foreign ministry had directed to stop the election process of NRNA.
Treasurer of the current working committee Mahesh Kumar Shrestha has decided to nominate KC as the vice-chairman from the panel. KC has included Shrestha, who got the highest number of votes in the last world conference, in his panel. Shrestha had won the post of treasurer in the last world conference by getting 1653 votes. Shrestha has been doing business in Japan.
Parbat is the home district of Acharya and Shrestha, the other panel's presidential candidates. Shrestha, one of the most successful businessmen in Japan, is the Chief Executive Officer of City Express Japan Group. He has brought City Center Mart into operation in various cities of Japan. Shrestha, a rival of the vice-president in KC's team known as Emalenikat, is also a Congress supporter.
Sharma, who is contesting for the post of general secretary, and Shrestha, the vice-president, are seen as strong candidates to support KC. In the other group, there are basically candidates close to the Congress. KC has formed a panel with those close to other parties. As Sharma and Shrestha are on his panel, it is estimated that KC can win the Congress vote. DB Chhetri has become KC's charioteer from the Middle East. Chhetri, who has been in Oman for a long time, is the spokesperson for the current working committee. They are vying for the post of regional vice-president. There is a provision in the constitution that four people will be elected as vice-presidents. KC has included Dharmaraj Adhikari, who was defeated in the last conference, in the same post this time as well. The officer is a resident of Australia.
Gauri Raj Joshi has become the candidate from the KC panel for the post of General Secretary. Joshi, who is still an official of the working committee, is being promoted to the top post. Joshi is the secretary of the current working committee. There is a provision in the legislature that there can be two secretaries.
At the last world conference, there were seven candidates for two secretaries. Joshi won the post of secretary with the highest number of 916 votes. Joshi is going to compete with Dr. Keshav Poudel, who is about to compete for the post of General Secretary from another group from the United States. In the last conference, Joshi had won the post of secretary while Poudel had lost the post of vice-president. KC is going to field Yasmin Wegam Syed as the women's vice president. She is currently an ICC member of the working committee. Wegam is working in Saudi Arabia. Four people will be appointed as secretary from the KC panel. Ram Sharan Simkhada, Ajib (Om) Gurung, Chiranjeevi Ghimire and Radhika (Tika) Gurung have become candidates for the post of women secretary. KC has fielded Simkhada from UK, Ghimire from Canada, Gurung from Japan and Gurung from Hong Kong for the post of secretary. Radhika Gurung, who will be the women's secretary from Rabina Thap's team, has also been named. However, the KC side has pulled into their group.
Sangita Marhatta from KC's panel will compete in the women's coordinator. Marhatta, a British national, had lost the same post in the previous conference. There is a provision in the legislature to elect a woman coordinator. Bhomadevi Limbu was elected to the post at the last conference. In the four-person contest, Marhatta came second with 652 votes. Marhatta will compete with Junu Gurung, who has been nominated as the women's coordinator from the other panel. Lok Prasad Dahal, who was elected as the co-treasurer in the last conference, is going to compete for the post of treasurer from the KC panel in the upcoming 10th World Conference. In the last conference, Dahal had won with 1184 votes. He works in Belgium. The KC panel has not selected the name of the co-treasurer.
Karki, who rose from the KC panel for the post of vice-president, Marhatta, the women's coordinator, and Dahal, the treasurer's candidate, are said to be close to the Maoists. By including the Maoists close to the panel, the KC group will be able to win the votes of those parties.
KC, who has chosen Yamuna Bhattarai as the women's co-treasurer, has decided to appoint Milan Chhantyal as the youth coordinator. Bhattarai works in the United States and Chhantyal in Ireland.
According to the pre-announced schedule, the date of the world conference has been fixed for October 23 to 25. There is still confusion over whether the election will be held due to the representative dispute. From now on, leadership selection will be done through online voting.
