The head coach of the Portuguese national football team, Fernando Santosh, has been dismissed.
Santosh was fired by the Portuguese Football Federation after Portugal lost to Morocco in the quarterfinals of the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Coach Santosh was criticized after keeping captain Cristiano Ronaldo on the bench in the last 16 and quarter-final matches of the World Cup.
Portugal was eliminated after losing 1-0 to Morocco, who reached the quarterfinals for the first time. Santosh signed a contract until the European Championship in 2024. But he was fired before the agreement.
