No agreement has been reached between the ruling parties on US assistance to the MCC. Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is now in the mood to pass the MCC in any case, but the Maoists and socialists should not pass the status quo. The Maoists, who were initially very vocal against the MCC, now have a hard time getting public opinion in favor of the MCC.
After intense controversy within the party, Prachanda has also had difficulty in assisting Deuba in taking him to the MCC parliament. In a meeting held within the party to form an opinion on the MCC, CPN-Maoist Center MP Sudan Kirati said that a decision on the US project Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) should be taken through a referendum.
At a meeting of the Parliamentary Committee on International Relations held at Singha Durbar on Monday, Kirati said that the MCC should be resolved through a roundtable conference or a referendum.
