As in Nepal and India, the practice of giving the title of Marnath Chief of Army Staff to each other's army chief is rare in other countries of the world.

It has been the practice of both the countries to pay homage to the honorary commander in a formal ceremony since 1950.  Despite the special significance of this tradition, the Indian Army seems to have neglected the Nepal Army in some defense matters.
