Kathmandu: The three top leaders of the CPN (Maoist) held a discussion at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar on Thursday in an attempt to resolve the dispute within the party and reach a consensus on starting a standing committee meeting on Friday.
During a two-hour discussion between the Prime Minister and CPN (Maoist) Chairman KP Oli, another Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal, Dahal and Nepal urged Oli to resign from the PM's post.
According to a leader close to Nepal, Dahal had initially offered Oli to step down as prime minister. "Don't talk about the PM's choice. Talk to the party president by holding a general convention soon. Don't talk about the Prime Minister for these 5 years. I don't even want to hear the 'V' of the alternative, 'Oli replied to Dahal. Leader Nepal then told Oli, "You must leave." Because of you, the party also deteriorated, the government also deteriorated. You don't listen to anyone. It doesn't happen that way. '
Oli also returned the answer given to Dahal to Nepal. "I can't leave now. "Don't talk about that," the leader said, quoting Oli. Although the tripartite talks failed to reach a conclusion, the leaders agreed to hold a meeting of the standing committee on Friday, said General Secretary Bishnu Poudel.
After Oli did not give up, Dahal and Nepal left Baluwatar. Later in the evening, other leaders of the group's secretariat and standing committee leaders met at Dahal's residence in Khumaltar. During the meeting, Dahal and Nepal briefed on the discussions held with Oli in Baluwatar.
Talks between Nepal and Pokhrel in Dhumbarahi
Before the Khumaltar meeting, talks were held between leader Nepal and secretariat member Ishwor Pokharel in Dhumbarahi. Pokharel had discussed to deceive the Nepali leader. Nepal also briefed Khumaltar about the discussions with Pokhrel. According to the leaders who participated in the discussion, Pokhrel had told Nepal, "At present, the chairman and the prime minister cannot be removed from any post. Instead, let's correct the mistakes and weaknesses. 'In response, Nepal said that it was no longer possible.
The dispute of the CPN (Maoist) is now in the Central Committee
As the power struggle within the party became more and more complicated, the leaders repeatedly postponed the ongoing standing committee meeting and gave time to the two chairpersons to seek consensus. But after the two chairpersons failed to reach an agreement, the dispute of the CPN (Maoist) has now reached the Central Committee.
After the tripartite talks in Baluwatar on Thursday were not positive, the Oli group met in Baluwatar in the evening and the Dahal-Nepal group in Khumaltar to decide on further strategies. Khumaltar's meeting has concluded that the central committee meeting should be convened within the first week of August and the agenda of the ongoing standing committee meeting should be the same.
According to a leader who participated in the meeting, it has been agreed to fix the date of the central committee meeting after some of the remaining leaders spoke at the standing committee meeting on Friday. In the standing committee meeting, Dahal is going to propose the date of the central committee meeting. The ongoing Oli group meeting in Baluwatar is not over yet. According to sources, Prime Minister Oli is also positive about convening a central committee meeting.
What was the agenda in the standing committee?
Seven agendas were decided in the standing committee meeting that started on July 25. In relation to the current situation and the standing committee meeting, the agenda of the two chairpersons, control, prevention and treatment of COVID-19, border problems and solutions of Nepal, overall review of government work, review of party work and completion of remaining work of organizational unity, MCC and various issues were proposed.
Among the various issues were the Rukum incident, the Citizenship Bill and the reduction of allowances for members of the federal parliament. After the remarks of the two presidents on July 26, some leaders had put forward their views on Nepal's border issue and solution agenda for two days.
However, on the occasion of Madan Jayanti on July 29, Prime Minister Oli said that the Indian state apparatus, the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu and some leaders of his own party had tried to remove him.
During the meeting, a majority of members of the Dahal-Nepal faction demanded Oli's resignation from both the post of prime minister and party chairman. After the demand for Oli's resignation, the CPN (Maoist) was on the verge of division. At the same time, the standing committee meeting was postponed after Prime Minister Oli recommended to the President to end the parliamentary session. It was also agreed to resume the standing committee meeting only after finding a formula of consensus between the two chairpersons.
