Finance Minister's request to allow Nepal Air to fly in Europe

Kathmandu. Finance Minister Dr. Yuvaraj Khatiwada has urged to lift the ban imposed by the European Union on Nepali civil aviation. Khatiwada made the request during a meeting with EU Ambassador to Nepal Veronica Cody on Monday. Cody bid farewell to the finance minister on Monday as she returned to Brussels after completing her three-year term.

During the meeting, Finance Minister Khatiwada demanded that the ban on Nepali ships flying in Europe be lifted. Stating that the government has given high priority to the work related to air security including upgrading of international airports, he demanded that Nepal should be freed from the EU's sanctions.

He also said that the European Union should allow Nepal's flights to European countries in the context of efforts to make Nepal a destination for European tourists.

The Finance Minister thanked the European Union for its support to Nepal's economic development and requested for continued support.

He expressed confidence that the European Union could contribute to Nepal's trade, employment, investment, tourism and economic recovery. He also said that the budget assistance received by Nepal from the union reflected the confidence of development partners in Nepal.

He informed that Nepal has increased its priority in the field of economic / financial / labor including air transport and tourism and has strengthened its commitment to good governance, transparency and reform by making legal arrangements related to economic and financial accountability.

During the meeting, Ambassador Cody informed that she was returning to the Central Office after completing a successful three-year tenure in Nepal.

Expressing her view that Nepal is doing a good job in cooperation with the European Union, she said that the Union has been assisting Nepal in various fields for its development. She also assured that the support would continue in the coming days.
